Is this for women only?
We are women-focused, and men-inclusive! We welcome diverse participants—including male allies for women's empowerment! Mothers and daughters, sons, and brothers, sisters and friends are invited to apply. The trip is not suitable for very young children. Please contact us if you have questions about bringing your friends or family members.
What kind of accommodations will we have?
In Kigali, we plan to stay at Hotel Chez Lando, a locally owned and operated hotel, surrounded by verdant gardens and home to two favorite restaurants. This is considered a 3-star accommodation by international standards and has all modern amenities. We have specifically chosen local, non-franchised high-quality hotels where people from diverse backgrounds come together. During our Rwandan safari, we plan to stay two nights in the breathtaking Ruzizi Tented Lodge, an award-winning eco-lodge in the Akageri National Park.
Optional Gorilla Trek hotels: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, and Hotel Gorillas Golf
Optional Tanzania extension: Arusha Coffee Lodge, Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, and Ngorongoro Farm House
(Note that specific hotels are subject to change, but in the unlikely event that we needed to do so, we would choose hotels of equal quality and character.)

I want to do the gorilla trek, but I have questions.
The gorilla trek is available for additional cost. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you are traveling to Rwanda, it is recommended that you take advantage of this amazing opportunity!
Situated in northwestern Rwanda on the slopes of the five volcanoes Muhabura, Sabyinyo, Gahinga, Karisimbi and Bisoke, Volcanoes National Park is, without a doubt, the country’s most popular tourist destination. Among others, it is home to more than half of the 700 remaining mountain gorillas in the world.
Without tourism, the gorillas would most likely not exist anymore – at least not the mountain gorillas of which there are so few left in the world. Conservation efforts are very strong in Rwanda in particular, and the park is supposedly one of the best protected national parks on the planet. Plus, the communities surrounding the park are benefiting from the tourism as well.
As your hosts, we will purchase your gorilla permits, and our guide will deliver you to the park headquarters. You are then separated into groups of 8 max (there are currently 80 permits per day – 10 habituated gorilla families times 8 trekkers) and receive a park guide from the authorities. (Only the Rwandan government – through its tourism and conservation arm – can sell gorilla trek permits and operate thetreks. We take care of all this for you.)
